One thing that is common to all of us, though, is that we are ”people” people. We understand the power of collaboration and relationships. We know the joy of helping a fellow human being become a little more able, a little more confident, a little more empowered.

 ASTD has long been a magnet for these people people, and the more involved you get—by joining a local chapter, by joining the Chapter’s Board—the more you realize how fulfilling it is to belong to such a community. Oh, it’s not always top-of-mind, but then something happens that makes you eternally happy to be part of something larger than yourself.

 I have always felt this way, and that is why it is so important to me to try to show you—our members—the value of belonging. Remember, my personal goal this year was that all of you would “strongly agree” on our annual survey that you get a great value for your membership dollars. Final results will be in soon—stay tuned!

 On a personal note, my family and I just had a very difficult month: my brother suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. First and foremost, I am so thankful for the thoughts, prayers, calls, and cards of support we received. Just as precious - knowing I could devote my full attention and energy to my family, while my ASTD family kept things going, took care of business, and gave me the time and space I needed.
